When users ask if / how they can add another domain name to their webhosting account, we need to clarify quite a bit as this can be a very open-ended question. Click here to learn more about Dedicated Hosting.
The first thing we will cover is what must be in place before your website will work.
- Your domain name must be registered
- Your domain name must be pointing to our web servers
- Your domain name must either be set as your main domain name, or an addon / parked domain.
So, if you ask, "How can I add a domain name", we'll need to touch base on all three topics above (which we will do below).
1. Your domain name must be registered
Before any domain name will work, it must be registered. When you register a domain name, it is registered for one year, and you will need to renew it yearly in order to keep it.

You can register a new domain name for your account in your Customer Account Panel (or CAP).
| Enter a Domain Name: | Here you will put the domain you want to register. Once you type in a domain, click on Check availability to see if the domain's available. You will need to register a different domain if the one you chose isn't available. |

| Add Domain Privacy: | For each new domain you register you can also purchase Domain Privacy. |
| Billing Information: | If you want to use your billing information already on file, select it from the drop down. To pay using a different method, select Add New and enter the new billing details. |
| Payment Method: | Here you can choose to use the credit card already in the system or a new card. |
| Terms of Service: | You must agree to the Terms of Service to register a new domain. A link is provided with the Terms of Service. |

If you only have one domain name, then it is your main domain name. When you use multiple domain names on one account, your secondary domain names are configured within your cPanel as either addon or parked domain names. Before you configure an addon or parked domain name, you must be sure that you have the available slots in your cPanel, as each hosting plan offered allows you to add a different number of addon and parked domains. To see how many you can add, simply log into your cPanel and look in the left menu for Addon Domains and Parked Domains.
Addon domains
An addon domain name allows you to host a website for a domain name that has nothing to do with your main domain name. If you needed to host more than one different website on your account, the additional domain names would need to be added as addon domain names.
Please note that when you create an Addon domain it also creates a subdomain as well on your account.
Subdomains
A subdomain name is like a "Domain within a Domain". For example, a subdomain name of inmotionhosting.com is support.inmotionhosting.com. These are considered part of a domain name and do not need to be purchased separately from the domain (primary or addon).
Parked domains
A parked domain name allows you to have multiple domain names point to the same account - often used to send mydomain.com, mydomain.net, and mydomain.org to the same site.
